The Director, Business Development (M&A), will be responsible for assisting in the full life cycle management of all acquisition transactions, including: assistance in the development of transaction strategy, broker management, analysis of potential acquisitions, creation and presentation of potential deals, negotiation of deals, and due diligence through the close of the process. Additionally, this role will play a large role in the financial integration of acquired companies. M&A represents a fundamental AVP growth strategy with a target of six-plus acquisitions annually. The corporate development team reports directly to the company President and works closely with our private equity partner.


  • Actively participate in and help lead the full lifecycle of acquisitions
  • Assist in the marketing of AVP as a buyer of medical-vision practices and help source potential targets
  • Manage, develop, and grow the Business Development Analyst(s)
  • Assesses transaction opportunities through extensive analyses and provide recommendations on prospects
  • Prepare financial, qualitative and valuation analyses, including: forecasts, budgets, cash flows, and financial models related to the due diligence process
  • Manage all intermediary (banker, broker, etc.) involvement in potential and actual deals
  • Manage the internal/external due diligence process
  • Manage the definitive closing documents on each deal
  • Work with senior leadership on all phases of the pre-merger process
  • Drive the post-merger implementation/integration process with a dozen-plus internal business groups
  • Ensure company integration plans are implemented as effectively and efficiently as possible, to maximize financial gain from acquisitions
  • Coordinate and execute various projects with senior leadership related to the evaluation of possible growth strategies


  • 6-10 years of transaction/corporate development experience
  • BS/BA in Finance, Business, or related field required. Advanced degree a plus
  • 2 years’ experience with direct reports
  • Exceptional finance and analytical skills
  • Excellent MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of valuation methodologies and transaction structures and terminology
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex and competing priorities and projects
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate, independent decisions in a timely manner
  • Ability to create, implement and manage action plans with very tight timelines
  • Strong people/communication, business writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to build quick rapport/trust of senior management and seller-physicians
  • Must possess strong initiative and take ultimate ownership of work
  • Ability to travel as needed
